Each day our fishing tour starts directly from the hotel door and lasts about 4-5 hours. Some days we fish in the rivers, and some days in the lake or gentle rapids. The fish we can catch include: trout, whitefish, pike perch (zander), pike, perch and crayfish. You will have very good opportunities to catch the big one! Guides are available daily to help you become familiar with the surroundings and each day you will be able to enjoy fishing in new settings.

Example itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival
Arrive either at Kuopio or Kajaani airport and pick up your hired car. We will provide you a route map to Kalevala Hotel in Kuhmo – driving time is about 2 ½ – 3 hours. After checking in the hotel, you may enjoy relaxing sauna bath with refreshing swim in the lake. Dinner will be served in the hotel’s restaurant.

Day 2 – Fishing trip to the river Pajakkajoki
After hearty breakfast, you will be ready for your first day of fishing. A fishing guide will collect you from the hotel’s pier and you will head for the river Pajakkajoki. Possible catches for today are trout, whitefish, pike perch (zander), pike, perch and crayfish. After a 4.5 miles fishing tour passing two other rivers, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch. After lunch, you will be driven back to the hotel by car. The total duration of the tour is 4 – 5 hours. In the evening, the dinner will be served at the hotel.

Day 3 – Fishing trip to rapid Lentuankoski

After breakfast, you can explore the hotel’s surroundings. There is Kalevala Village with guided tours, Winter War museum, Petola Predator Nature Centre as well as sandy beach for swimming.

In the afternoon, it is time to take a fishing trip to slow-flowing Lentuankoski rapids. Lentuankoski Rapids connect two major local lakes, Lake Lentua and Lake Lammasjärvi. The duration of the guided tour is 4 hours, and it includes a lunch by an open fire. In the evening, hotel chef will prepare a delicious fish meal by the fire.

Day 4 – Spinning rods or nets
Today you will do fishing with spinning rods or nets. The motorboat will take you from the hotel pier towards the fish-teeming lakes. Possible catches for today are pike and pike perch. Picnic lunch will be served on a small island. What could make a tastier meal than your own catch after a day spent in the great outdoors? Dinner will be served at the hotel in the evening.

Day 5 – Goodbye Kuhmo
After breakfast, you can start your way back to either Kuopio or Kajaani airport for your homebound flight. Additional nights available on request.

  • Petrol for the car hire

Please note that you can purchase this package without flights or with flights from/to other airports. Departures from airports such as Birmingham, Aberdeen, Newcastle and Edinburgh are also available. We can also arrange this package without car hire and arrange airport transfers from/to the hotel. Wild brown bear adventure (overnight trip)

Meeting the “Wild Brown Bear” in its natural environment is an unforgettable experience of a lifetime from the comfort and safety of specially designed bear hides near the Russian border. The brown bear and other rare animals such as the wolverine and wild deer can be viewed from three specially designed hides. All hides are equiped with comfortable viewing chairs and sleeping areas, hearing amplificator system and dry toilets. Minimum 1 person. Price includes refreshments and sandwiches in the hides, sleeping bags, personal tour guide, sound equipment, diploma of Bear night and insurance.
